Suzanna Hupp, a chiropractor from Copperas Cove, Texas, often carried a pistol in her purse for protection, especially when working late. On October 16, 1991, while having lunch with her parents at Luby’s Cafeteria in Killeen, she left her pistol in her car at her mother’s suggestion. Tragically, a deranged man crashed his truck through the restaurant’s windows and opened fire, killing 23 people, including Hupp’s parents, before taking his own life. With her gun left in the car, Hupp was defenseless, later saying it might have given her a chance to act. I refuse to be in her position. I carry whenever and wherever I can. There are many reasons to conceal carry daily, but here are my top five reasons for doing so.

1. Unpredictable Threats

Danger can strike anywhere, anytime, as Suzanna Hupp learned during the Luby’s Cafeteria massacre when she was defenseless without her gun. Carrying ensures I’m ready for sudden, life-threatening situations, whether in a crowded mall or a quiet parking lot.

2. When seconds count, the police are only minutes away!

Police, despite their best efforts, often cannot respond instantly due to distance, traffic, or other factors, meaning help might arrive too late.

3. Personal Empowerment

Carrying a firearm gives me confidence and control over my safety, avoiding the helplessness Hupp experienced. It’s about taking charge of my security rather than depending solely on others.

4. Comfort Enables Consistency

A comfortable holster, like a belly band from TacPew, ensures I never leave my firearm behind due to discomfort, unlike Hupp’s tragic choice. I choose a belly band that molds to my body, adjusts for a snug fit, and allows quick access, making daily carry seamless and reliable.
